Appearance - Alison's appearance is nothing special. Brown hair, blue eyes, she could be any girl in Hogwarts. It must be her bearing, then, that makes the difference. The tall girl striding through the corridors, seemingly oblivious to the heads turning to watch her pass? That's Alison.
Personality - Describing Alison's personality is like walking through a mirror maze.
On one hand, she has been well indoctrinated not only to believe, but to know that muggleborn and half-blood witches and wizards are inferior. It's not their fault, of course, but it's a fact that they're weak-willed, amoral and corrupt. On the other hand, Alison can't help noticing that Hermione Granger is a muggleborn witch who appears to possess none of these traits. Of course, that's almost certainly because she's a sneak as well.
Most people would probably describe Alison as a confident young woman, and even Alison would agree, because even Alison doesn't realise that her confidence is a reaction to her own paranoia. In order to deal with her persecution complex, Alison overcompensates by becoming excessively snobbish in tough situations and sometimes this can be misinterpreted as confidence. However, ultimately, it is lack of confidence that creates this facade.
Alison's mentality also impacts on her schooling. Her teachers agree that she has potential to be brilliant, if only she would put in some effort. In some ways, this praise is what keeps Allie down. She is not unaware that she is bright, and so she doesn't try very hard. Indeed, Alison thinks people like Hermione are an embarrassment. Everyone thinks she's smart, but she works so hard for it... Alison also makes a habit of forgetting that she herself only just scraped passing marks for her OWLs.
After exams, and in classes that Allie is not naturally good at, her abysmal grades can make her depressed, but Alison stubbornly maintains her cheerful and most importantly, strong, confident appearance. It would take someone very insightful to get behind that pretense to comfort the real Alison who is hiding in there somewhere.
Family -
Alison's father, David, is a weather-worker, while her mother, Julia, runs an apothecary for the local magical community. She also does a side-trade with muggles who think they're wizards and witches, because they're just so amusing. Besides, if they didn't buy from us, they'd just find some other way of wasting their money.
Alison also has three younger siblings; Ivan, Penelope and Roger.
History -
Alison was born in Whitby, a coastal town in Yorkshire, on the 17th of August 1981. Her formative years were as ordinary as any other girl in her situation. Her parents were a wizard and witch, both pureblooded as far back as any in their families could remember. Alison was taught hatred at the breakfast table, and knew the names of death eaters as other children know the names of favourite cartoon characters.
At eleven, Alison duly received notice that she had been accepted into Hogwarts. It was not unexpected. The world had been rocked the previous year when The Boy Who Lived returned to the wizarding world, and Alison had listened to her mother spit his name in disgust whenever he made the news, as he did consistantly.
Alison started at Hogwarts the same year as Ginny Weasley. When, a few weeks into term, a bloody message to the inhabitants of the castle graced the walls of one of the corridors, Alison was just as enthusiastic as anyone else. Finally, someone was taking action! She had no idea who the "heir of Slytherin" was, of course, but she heard whispers among others of her acquaintance. Some said it was Draco Malfoy. Alison had seen him a time or two around the castle. He was the new seeker for Slytherin. She practically worshipped the ground he walked on. But as it turned out, the heir of Slytherin wasn't even in Slytherin. It was Potter's friend's sister being controlled by the Dark Lord or something. Rumour and gossip was never a reliable source.
After that first year at Hogwarts, Alison got used to the routine, as each year Harry Potter's life was used as a gaming piece between the two sides of an ongoing struggle. And as the things got more hectic at school, so they got more interesting at home. Where her parents had enjoyed a quiet social life, now suddenly they were being invited to events all the time. After third year, Alison was often required to babysit her brothers and sister when her parents were asked to go out somewhere unexpectedly, or was banished to her room with strict instructions to stay there until the visitors had left.
Now in sixth year, Alison has slowly begun to wake up to the reality of the life she is living. She's suddenly aware that a lot of things she takes for granted don't seem so obvious to everyone else. Alison's more worried than usual.
Sample Role Play -
Alison had just been reaching for the orange juice when a first year's elbow knocked the jug. The spill wasn't much, certainly not as bad as it could have been, but it did leave the edge of her skirt wet. She spent some moments studying the stain before she lifted her eyes to meet those of the boy now stuttering apologies at her.
From a purely aesthetic point of view Alison's eyes could be described as pretty. They were a clear crystalline blue, but unlike crystals, Alison's gaze wasn't something most people felt comfortable looking at for too long. Indeed, this little first year was already squirming, and he'd only been subjected to it for a few moments.
The problem with first years, Alison reflected, was that you couldn't really do much with them. Sure, she could hex him, or force him to clean her skirt the muggle way, but that wouldn't really fix her skirt. It would probably only make it look worse. She couldn't even force him to become her servant, because, really, first years were just didn't know enough.
Alison averted her gaze and banished the stain from her uniform before the kid went blind from trying to out-stare her.
"Next time, learn a reparing charm before you break it, you clumsy oaf," she commented half-heartedly as she left the table.
